I have always been a fan of the film Jurassic Park and dinosaurs, so I could not resist building a few props inspired by both!
Below you can see all of my Jurassic themed builds so far.
BRACHIOSAURUS
Standing taller than any of my other builds the Brachiosaurus is one of my favourite builds because it has the added feature of actually moving like its eating a few branches! Having had this on display at comic con it was loved by all and a great feature to add to my collection and prop display.
COMPSOGNATHUS
This full size replica of the Compsognathus from Jurassic Park 2 - The Lost World is something that I had wanted to build for a long time. It looks great on my display and even had the opportunity to have a photo shoot with it and the Jurassic Park Jeep. Once placed on a grassy surface it blends in and looks realistic.
VELOCIRAPTOR
This full size Velociraptor bust based on the likeness of the Velociraptor from Jurassic Park was designed to be placed flat against a wall, giving the effect that the Velociraptor is appearing from the tall grasses. With over 20,000 hand carved scales and realistic hand painted bodywork this is one my favourite builds so far and receives a lot of attention when on display.
HATCHING DINOSAUR EGG
Having built dino eggs before, I wanted to build something a bit more challenging. I chose to build a baby Velociraptor hatching from an egg, inspired by Blue from Jurassic World. It was an interesting build to do having to do the bottom section of the egg then build the baby Velociraptor in one half before adding the top section of the egg shell and sealing, painting and texturing to finish.
JURASSIC PARK SIGN
What better way to display all of my dinosaur themed creations with a large Jurassic Park sign. The sign stands at approx. 1.5 metres tall on its stand and has a textured finish to give it the full effect.
DINOSAUR EGGS
I purchased 2 ceramic eggs from a local car boot, which gave me the inspiration to create Dinosaur Eggs. The ceramic eggs were coated with paper mache, textured and painted to create the full effect, with a hand made nest for the eggs to sit in.
DILOPHOSAURUS
This full size bust was inspired by the Dilophosaurus from Jurassic Park. Made using a mechanism built inside whereby opening and closing the frill also opened and closed the mouth to create the full effect.
JURASSIC PARK GATES BAUBLE
During the festive season I came up with the idea to create that little something that could be displayed on a Christmas tree, or all year round but taking the Jurassic Park theme to a miniature level. The hardest part of this build was assembling the gates inside the glass bauble as it took a lot of patience and attention to detail.
ROCK WARNING SIGN
A warning sign with a difference. Mounted on a rock made out of foam, it hides a secret compartment. When anyone gets close to the sign, an audio clip of a Velociraptor is played, which is great when placed next to my Velociraptor bust giving anyone who passes by a great surprise.
